English to Marathi Translation: A Survey of Parallel Corpora, Datasets, Methodologies and Tools
摘要
Marathi is one of the mostly languages spoken in Maharashtra and various regions worldwide but it presents unique challenges in English translation due to its classification as a low-resource language. The scarcity of parallel corpora and pre-trained models has hindered the development of effective translation systems. This survey aims to provide a comprehensive review of the technological advancements in translating English to Marathi, focusing on the strategies employed to overcome these challenges. We analyze significant datasets, including the Indian Languages Corpora Initiative (ILCI), CVIT-PIB, and the IIT Bombay English-Hindi corpora, to assess their contributions to improving translation accuracy. Furthermore, we investigate advanced methodologies such as Phrase Table Injection (PTI), back-translation, and the application of multilingual embeddings. These techniques capitalize on the linguistic similarities among languages to enhance translation quality and ensure more effective communication between English and Marathi.By analyzing these approaches and their outcomes, this survey highlights the significant progress made in English-to-Marathi translation technologies. It aims to serve as a valuable resource for researchers and practitioners seeking to advance the field, ultimately contributing to more accurate and context-aware translation systems that meet the diverse needs of users in a globalized world.
