摘要

Mainstream and critical theories markedly differ on their perspective on the creation and purpose of International Organizations (IOs). The former views IOs as arenas of collective action, while the latter regards them as tools of control. Third World Approaches to International Law and International Organizations being an element of critical theories contends that the genesis and development of IOs and international law are restricted by place and idea. In this regard, the UN was established when African states were colonies. Hence, the call for reforming the SC stems from its foundation compounded with the problematic veto power, non-participation of member states in its decision-making, and lack of transparency in its meetings. Due to this, the call for reform persists for several decades. In the process, different proposals were submitted where a more credible push for SC reform came during the run-up to the UN World Summit in September 2005.
