In the ever-changing landscape of digital communication, safeguarding user privacy and maintaining security in user interactions have become fiercely important. Traditional approaches to encryption often force users to sacrifice usability OR security. Therefore, in this project, we propose MOTIONENCRYPT, an entirely new gesture-based secure messaging application. The key novelty of this work is the”shake to encrypt” feature, which utilizes the accelerometers present in many mobile devices as a means of toggling the encryption on or off. This provides a method for accessing complex security mechanisms without the requirement for the skills of someone with a technical background. The app is implemented with Flutter for cross-platform deployment and Fire- base to have real-time support for the back-end. A secure data encryption model is implemented for messaging, where users can conveniently select the way they would like to protect their messages to ensure an unprecedented dynamic secure experience. The encryption offers the user’s choice of implementing either a Morse code model or a Caesar cipher model. Chat rooms are private and secure using end-to-end encrypted communication from Firebase Firestore to ensure synchronized user interaction and private data transfer among users attending the chat room. To help enhance the user experience, the app also leverages biometric authentication, ambient light sensors to toggle themes, and visual indicators to show the state of the encryption. Also, the app includes built-in solutions that must comply with AES-256 standards and maintain compliance with the GDPR laws. Using a user-centered design approach, we have provided usable and understandable high level assurance of cryptographic protection. Performance analysis of the encryption system consistently showed that on-device execution of encryption is reliable and only adds minimal latency to the messaging process to make it a reliable and usable system.

摘要
