Wicked Issues in Healthy Longevity
摘要
We are seeing rapid progress in the science of aging and real prospects of applying this understanding to creating products and services to improve our healthspan. However, there is insufficient attention to some of the potential barriers to these advances making practical impact. This chapter explores ten different issues that could represent barriers and suggests a way forward in tackling them. It highlights some key gaps in the science, explores the selection of aging mechanisms around which to develop interventions, sets out the requirements for rigorous clinical trials and consistent clinical settings in which to conduct them, highlights changes needed in regulatory and reimbursement systems, and the need to make interventions more affordable, explores the application of AI to personalise healthspan strategies and defines the new narrative needed to change public and political attitudes to aging and interventions to slow or reverse it. Finally, it sets out a vision for the field once these issues are effectively tackled.
