Fungal Infections of the Eyelids
摘要
The subset of fungal infections involving the palpebral region is a heterogeneous group of mycoses with diverse clinical presentations. This group of mycoses includes superficial infections (blepharitis, periocular tinea, or preseptal cellulitis), subcutaneous (sporotrichosis or eumycetoma), and systemic (paracoccidioidomycosis, blastomycosis, coccidioidomycosis, and cryptococcosis). Because their clinical presentation poses significant diagnostic challenges and may mimic both infectious and non-infectious disorders, timely diagnosis is often delayed. To date, the pathognomonic clinical findings of this clinical variant have not been described in the published literature. A high index of clinical suspicion combined with appropriate mycological investigation is essential to ensure timely diagnosis and treatment. This chapter provides a comprehensive and updated review of the epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical features, diagnostic strategies, differential diagnosis, and therapeutic approaches to eyelid mycoses.
