Part 1 of this chapter is a revised version of an article I wrote for the McGill University Retirees Association (MURA) newsletter which appeared in summer 2022. The executive of MURA knew that I am of Ukrainian ancestry and wanted a personal account of how I felt about the brutal invasion ofUkraine Ukraine by Russia on 24 February 2022. When this article was written In April 2022, I hoped that the war would soon be over, and the rebuilding ofUkraine Ukraine could soon begin. How wrong I was. Part 2 was written in November 2025, and there is still no end to the war in sight. It has been difficult for me to put words on paper for this second part, but I hope the reader will sense my enormous concern, admiration, and support for the Ukrainian people.
