Cycling Along the Mosel River Valley: Combining Business and Pleasure
摘要
InMosel River valley October 2016, Janet and I took our first cycling trip along a river in GermanyGermany, the Mosel. It was a prelude to a workshop that I would be participating in later at the Université duLuxembourg LuxembourgUniversity of Luxembourg. Thanks to the Mosel-Rad-Touren companyMosel-Rad-Touren company, we were able to enjoy a self-guided cycle trip along the river from the historic Roman city of TrierTrier to KoblenzKoblenz, where the winding Mosel empties into the Rhein. We cycled for five days, averaging about 40 km/day, and each night we stayed in a delightful Gästhaus, often in a local winery which produces fruity Riesling winesRiesling wine. Along the way, we took stops for coffee and pastry and had picnic lunches in the vineyardsRiesling wine and vineyards, which extend down steep slopes to the edge of the Mosel. Having so enjoyed this cycling experience in GermanyGermany, we organized two more similar trips, one in 2018 along the Spree, which flows northward to Berlin, and another (for seven days) in 2019 along the Elbe, from Dresden to Magdeburg. Sadly, the COVID-19 pandemic put an end to these lovely holiday adventures.
