In January 2012, one month after my wife Mary suddenly died, I was the host of a public “cutting-edge” lecture on brain imaging at McGill. At the reception after the lecture, I introduced myself to Janet and Judy who came to this monthly lecture series for the first time at the suggestion of Judy, who was a nurse. They were very friendly and wanted to know more about these lectures. I asked Janet, “What is your interest in science?” Janet replied that although she did not enjoy her science classes in school, today she likes learning more about science, especially in the areas of health and the environment. I invited them to come to more of these lectures in the future, which they did! Janet and I took a liking to each other, and in due course we developed a serious relationship, leading to our marriage in September 2015.
