Sustainability in Additive Manufacturing Through Artificial Intelligence
摘要
The industrial sector can be revolutionized through Additive Manufacturing (AM) that can foster sustainability in the social, economic, and environmental realms. AM is more beneficial by reducing waste and encouraging the move towards circular economies through 3D-based layers of materials. Despite the challenge such as initial issues with product quality and high levels of energy consumption, continuous improvements lead to improved components. AM increases the effectiveness of operations and reduces raw material and energy requirements. Being less efficient and consuming more energy than traditional methods, efficiency of materials is given a priority in such processes as powder bed fusion and vat photopolymerization. As the R&D progresses, the AM uptake increases in sectors. There are problems of pollution and waste management. AM can also save up to 90% of waste and this is an indicator of its influence to sustainability. Although it has brought some economic benefits, it still needs more research to fully comprehend its impact on the society and health. The analysis of eco-efficiency has proven AM as a sustainable manufacturing company because it guides it to relatively-affordable, environmental friendly process.
