Structuring a Learner-Centered Online Course

This chapter introduces the Integrated Instructional Design (ID) ProcessIntegrated Instructional Design (ID) ProcessIntegrated (ID) Process for Learner-Centered Online Course Design, which synthesizes ADDIEADDIE, Backward DesignBackward Design, Gagné’s Nine Events, and Universal Design for Learning (UDL)Universal Design for Learning (UDL) into a cohesive approach. The chapter emphasizes the importance of intentional course planning, including the alignment of objectives, activities, and assessments, as the foundation for effective online learning. Readers are guided through strategies for building a learner-centered syllabus, selecting appropriate assessments, and ensuring equitable access through UDL principles. By applying these strategies, instructors and instructional designers can create a structured course blueprint that fosters clarity, engagement, and inclusivity.
