Adolescent Concussion: Head Bonk 101
摘要
Concussion management is a critical topic in pediatric sports medicine. Value can be optimized by limiting the use of neuroimaging to patients with a suspicion of intracranial bleeding and emphasizing concussion prevention. Recovery can be improved by encouraging early engagement in light, noncontact physical activity. To prevent concussions, emphasis should be placed on advocating for rule changes minimizing contact to the head, providing coaching education, and implementing neuromuscular training programs. Additionally, helmets and off-the-shelf mouthguards provide protective benefits in certain contact sports.
