Buckle Fractures of the Distal Radius: Stability Adds Value
摘要
This chapter reviews strategies to reduce costs, maintain excellent outcomes, and enhance value in the treatment of pediatric distal radius buckle fractures. For example, radiographs after the initial diagnostic imaging are not necessary. Using a Velcro splint instead of a cast for fracture immobilization yields equivalent outcomes, offers greater patient comfort, and is usually preferred by both the child and parents. Early return to noncontact activity is safe with a splint. Follow-up clinic visits and repeat radiographs are not required. By adopting these approaches, value is enhanced when treating distal radius buckle fractures in children.
