摘要
The purpose of Chap. 3 is to address L2 teachers’ cultural identity in teacher education programs. Therefore, the chapter elaborates on the importance of cultural identity from different aspects to create a critical viewpoint on the connections between L2 teacher education and cultural identity. First, the relationships between globalization and cultural identity have been discussed, debating that globalization can be like a “double-edged sword” for cultural identity development, with both providing opportunities and threats. Second, the relationships between cultural identity and education have been discussed through the potential of teaching and learning cultural identity. Next, cultural identity has been problematized in L2 teacher education. Moreover, the position of cultural identity in Language for Specific Purposes (LSP) and Language for General Purposes (LGP) teacher education programs is critically addressed. As two approaches to deal with cultural identity in L2 teacher education programs, culturally responsive teaching and co-construction of cultural identity are particularized. Finally, third space awareness has been elaborated to remind L2 teacher educators of the transitional aspects of L2 teachers’ cultural identity.
