Bilingual schools are a classic test case of contact theory and multicultural models, but so far, research has ignored the issue of inward reproductions of external inequality. The education system plays a significant role in molding the individual’s image and has enormous influence on the nature and values of society. However, the question always arises: does the education system mold society or is it molded by society? Does the system serve its learners, or is it part of the control mechanism? How is the encounter between majority and minority communities managed in a joint education system? Who determines the boundaries, aims, and goals? Is creating a new and equal reality in an institutionalized education system possible? Can education be an agent for social change, or does it reinforce the balance of power? These are the fundamental questions at the heart of this book, which seeks to explore the experiences of bilingual schools to change reality through education from a new angle.
