AI Strategy in a VUCA World: Rethinking Traditional Models for Digital Transformation

Modern organizations operate in an environment defined by volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity—the VUCA world (Bennett & Lemoine, 2014; Kail, 2011). Global disruptions such as pandemics, cyberattacks, shifting regulations, and AI-related policy uncertainty have exposed the limitations of traditional strategic planning tools and processes. According to the World Economic Forum (2023), more than 55% of executive boards admit they are not prepared to adjust strategies quickly during overlapping crises. Similarly, a 2023 McKinsey survey found that over 60% of executives consider their strategy processes too slow for today’s markets, and Deloitte (2024) reported that only 38% of strategists use real-time data often due to inadequate technological infrastructure.
