Gamified Virtual Reality Systems for Training in Aircraft De-Icing Operations
摘要
This paper presents the design and evaluation of a gamified virtual reality (VR) training simulator for aircraft de-icing operations. The simulator replicates real-world procedures by segmenting the aircraft into operational treatment zones and modelling equipment constraints such as boom articulation, spray modes, and safety buffers. Variable parameters including weather, aircraft layout, fluid temperature, and pressure, introduce dynamic challenges, while gamification features such as timers, progress tracking, error alerts, and real-time feedback enhance engagement and knowledge retention. A pilot evaluation involving aviation trainees compared VR-based training with traditional methods. Results show that the VR group achieved higher task accuracy, reduced completion times, and more consistent performance across participants. These findings demonstrate the potential of immersive, gamified VR environments to improve operational readiness and procedural compliance in safety-critical ground operations.
