Integrating Sustainable Mobility into Rail Passenger Transport Logistics Solutions
摘要
This paper examines the integration of sustainable mobility principles into rail passenger transport logistics to enhance efficiency, mitigate environmental impacts, and improve passenger services. The study focuses on how logistics solutions within the rail transport sector can be reimagined by incorporating sustainable practices, such as multimodal integration and Mobility as a Service (MaaS) system. The research examines the challenges facing the Lithuanian rail transport system, particularly in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. It highlights key logistics issues such as insufficient interconnection with other transport modes and a lack of flexibility in passenger services. By addressing these challenges through sustainable logistics solutions, such as optimising first and last-mile connectivity and integrating alternative transport modes (e.g., buses, bicycles, and shared mobility services), the paper proposes a more cohesive and eco-friendly approach to rail travel. The paper also examines the role of innovative technologies and AI-driven systems in enhancing logistical efficiency and scheduling within multimodal hubs, thereby enabling a smoother and more sustainable transportation experience for passengers. The paper emphasises the importance of aligning rail passenger logistics with the European Union’s broader sustainability goals, contributing to a more resilient and efficient transport ecosystem.
