Approval Processes are common for governance and compliance in organizational business processes. However, they often introduce delays and inefficiencies or do not mitigate the risks as intended when they are not well designed. Building on the previously published Approval Patterns, this paper extends the existing collection by seven new design patterns. The result is 32 approval patterns in total that are organized in nine categories. The newly proposed design patterns address design problems in defining approval outcomes, integrating approval processes into larger workflows, and reacting to deadlocks when aggregating decisions. The design patterns are offering guidance for process analysts, software developers, and regulators. The expanded pattern language addresses more design problems and allows to better balance competing concerns such as compliance, efficiency, and user satisfaction.

摘要
