In pursuing long-term development goals, local participation is essential to the success of sustainable tourism in rural areas. The study concludes that community-based tourism (CBT) enhances local welfare, conserves natural resources, and fosters economic inclusion. In this study, Ponggok Village in Indonesia and Xijiang Miao Village in China are used as examples of community empowerment that lead to increased tourism competitiveness and sustainability. In rural communities, empowerment combined with local support and responsible tourism practices significantly improves social, environmental, and economic indicators. According to the paper, sustainable tourism contributes not only to local economies but also to social cohesion and environmental stewardship that are essential to the sustainability of communities.
