An Introduction of Lifestyle Medicine
摘要
Lifestyle medicine is an emerging medical specialty that employs evidence-based therapeutic lifestyle interventions as the primary treatment for chronic conditions such as cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, and obesity. This manuscript provides a comprehensive overview of lifestyle medicine, detailing its six foundational pillars: optimal nutrition, physical activity, restorative sleep, stress management, connectedness, and avoidance of risky substances. It emphasizes the integration of personalized lifestyle changes as first-line therapy, its cost-effectiveness, benefits in disease prevention and sometimes reversal compared to traditional medical treatments. It further explores the role of digital health technologies, including wearable devices and telemedicine, in enhancing patient engagement and adherence. Special attention is given to the impact of lifestyle factors on pediatric populations, particularly regarding obesity, physical health, and mental well-being. The manuscript concludes that lifestyle medicine, supported by innovative digital tools and multidisciplinary collaboration, offers a sustainable, patient-centered approach to improving health outcomes and reducing healthcare costs across the lifespan.
