Introduction
摘要
The main proposition of this book is to formalize a commons-oriented set of principles for the formation of cultural value as a way to oppose current neoliberal understandings of the value of culture. In order to do so, the book will analyze the impact of two theories on culture: on the one hand, the book will assess how neoliberalism has changed our understanding of culture; on the other, it will explain how the concept of the commons provides a way to resist this narrative, and how its emergence in the cultural sphere responds to the need of such an alternative. The methodology employed in the book is based on an interdisciplinary approach to the field of the cultural commons, encompassing urban studies, cultural policy studies, law, cultural economics, creative industries studies, philosophy, and environmental governance. It offers an analysis of the academic discourse on the themes of culture and neoliberalism, and of the cultural commons; furthermore, it analyzes different policies and case studies from a range of international contexts.
