As the European Union (EU) continues to embrace digitalisation, it is crucial to ensure that citizens of all ages have access to the benefits of this transformation. Older workers, in particular, may face difficulties in adapting to new digital tools and processes, which could widen the digital divide and exacerbate existing inequalities in the workforce. To address these challenges, the EU has developed a comprehensive legal framework and principles aimed at safeguarding the rights of workers in the digital age. These principles are especially relevant to the workplace, where on-going learning and adaptability are essential for success. In this context, this chapter provides an overview of existing EU initiatives, policies, and legislation that address issues related to older workers in the context of digitalisation, as well as an applied description of certain national policies, both within and outside the EU, relevant in assessing the impact of the EU on the matter.
