Computers began to be introduced into schools in the 1980s. At that time, microcomputers were run from, generally, either punch-card or cassette tape systems. Using these systems, it was possible to either use the computer as a demonstration tool, or to use it as a device for programming. Since that time, digital technologies have developed and have diversified very widely, both in terms of hardware and software. Some learning and learner behaviours have not necessarily shifted, however, as the behaviours adopted to gain most effective outcomes from the early devices still persist. In this chapter, learning and learner behaviours that have become adopted to gain from devices that have been present and have been developed since the 1980s are explored.
