Photovoltaic (PV) systems play an important role in the move towards renewable energy. On the other hand, defects and inefficiencies in these systems may cause a substantial reduction in energy output and raise the cost of operation. AI is a novel and modern tool that allows for a live tracking update and predictive maintenance through fault detection, degradation analysis, and scheduling of the maintenance to be provided all along. The work presents a review of the kinds of flaws in the solar PV systems and the AI techniques for the detection of faults and faults repairing, as well as the difficulties in the realization of these solutions. An evaluation of different AI methods is done to show their precision, ability to be used on a large scale, and are they suitable for the work done in the real time.
