Energy Harvesting Systems for Indoor Applications
摘要
In the ever-changing environment of industry, technological innovations are reshaping the world. Energy Harvesting (EH) technologies can convert ambient energy, such as solar energy, thermal, vibrational or RF energy into usable electrical energy. Energy Harvesting technology encompasses a wide range of interconnected devices and systems. This article explores the impact of new technologies for indoor applications powered by Energy Harvesting systems and how to select the best optimal power solution and how this affects human experience, from convenience and personalization to sustainability and security. Energy harvesters for IoT edge devices should fulfill requirements, such as power range, costs and dimensions. The available energy sources play also a major role in case of indoor applications. Energy harvesting for indoor applications is a rapidly advancing field, driven by the explosion in Internet of Things (IoT) devices, wireless sensor networks (WSNs), and wearables all requiring sustainable, maintenance-free power sources. Indoors, the available ambient energy (from light, heat, RF signals, and motion) is radically different in spectrum, intensity, and intermittency from outdoors, posing both unique challenges and opportunities.
