Amidst the recent advancements in the augmentation of individual workers in production environments, limited consideration has been afforded to the new opportunities that may arise from having an augmented workforce. This paper explores the opportunities that may be unlocked by establishing and leveraging different groupings of workers within an augmented workforce, based on some shared properties, in production environments. Considering groupings that are based on three selected perspectives – product, production operation and workplace environment – opportunities are identified for improved worker safety and productivity, and enterprise resilience and social sustainability.
