This chapter focuses on employment experiences of Black women in England who are living with a recessively inherited genetic condition, called sickle cell. Sickle Cell disorders are major genetic blood conditions that are primarily found in people who can trace their ancestry to countries that lie along the malarial belt regions, in Africa, India, the Caribbean, Latin America, the Middle East and Mediterranean. An explanation is given of sickle cell, why it can be an invisible disability, the symptoms and how it affects women living with the condition in particular.
