In environments where identity verification is paramount, a reliable access control verification system becomes a must. The effectiveness of these systems depends on the intended scenarios in which they will be applied. In our case, we focus on the academic field, which encompasses different situations of access control. Several techniques and solutions are proposed in studies and implementations from literature, targeting campus’s access control. Some of them are based solely on identification, such as Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, others on biometric-based verification, and some solutions offer a combination to strengthen authentication security. In this paper, we will analyse and classify these methods according to certain criteria to provide a clear vision. This paper aims to assist people who wish to implement access control to choose a versatile solution according to the desired need.

摘要
