This chapter examines Nigeria’s federal structure, focusing on the role of state Governors as subnational leaders. It provides a historical overview of federalism in Nigeria, tracing the evolution of the Governors‘powers from pre-independence to the Fourth Republic (1999-date). This chapter will also examine constitutional provisions, legal frameworks, and how Governors‘roles have shifted with the country’s changing political landscape.
