Green Abolition Democracy and the Steady State
摘要
This essay is a study of the visions of a steady-state presented by Herman Daly, a founder of Ecological Economics, and the political theorist, William Ophuls. Neither thinker is particularly compelling when it comes to how to transition from capitalism (or any other growth economy) to a stationary or steady-state. For Daly, the transition is achieved through policy change; for Ophuls, the steady-state is part of a more centralized political order. Much of this essay is taken up with an exploration of the steady-state as a future that requires abolition democracy for it to be achieved and perpetuated.
