For the aerospace engineering sector, maintenance is extremely crucial. It ensures the technical integrity and smooth operation of aircraft, minimizing the risk of serious issues or accidents, thus enabling safe completion of flights. Nowadays, the advancement of technology has made it easier to incorporate various technologies into aircraft inspection. The advantages include faster troubleshooting, automated aircraft checks to reduce downtime, mission planning, and better part management. Technologies such as mini robots, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and augmented reality have been introduced. This research focuses on the application of the YOLOv8 in identifying common surface defects on aircraft fuselages. Additionally, it aims to develop a system combining YOLOv8 for UAV-based defect detection, involving establishing flight coordinates. A complete small-scale system will be set up with a small UAV Tello and a defect detection module. The system is evaluated in a real environment with high accuracy and flexibility.
