Etching: Carving Patterns into Silicon
摘要
Picture a sculptor, carefully chiseling away stone to reveal the masterpiece hidden within. In semiconductor manufacturing, etching plays a similar role as it is the process where we selectively remove material to create the intricate patterns that make up a microchip. After we’ve deposited various materials on the wafer and used photolithography to create a pattern template, etching is what actually transfers these patterns into the underlying layers.
