Introduction
摘要
This chapter lays the book’s foundation by briefly tracing the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s (NCAA) history and the impact of Title IX legislation. While Title IX created some unintended negative consequences, it significantly benefited women athletes and fans with increased participation, record attendance, and substantial broadcast ratings. After discussing the tensions between the NCAA and Title IX, the author frames the book’s proceedings analyses through intersectionality in order to understand the political, structural, and representational issues experienced by college athletes. The chapter concludes with the book’s preview.
