Tc-99m-MAG3 is a plasma protein-bound organic anion that undergoes tubular secretion and leaves the kidney without tubular reabsorption. It is the preferred agent for renography, the main clinical indication of which is the identification of outflow obstruction in a dilated upper renal tract. It is also used for indirect radionuclide cystography for the detection of vesicoureteric reflux.
