This paper discusses fast-charging techniques for electric vehicles. The current battery technologies for electric vehicles (EV) consist of large pack of lithium-ion cells, which are very heavy to carry around and are slower to re-charge compared to fuel refill time for combustion engines. This larger re-charge time is the main caveat for large-scale adoption of EV in today’s busy World where car users cannot afford to wait 30 min or more at charging stations during their trips for battery re-charge. Development of new methods and techniques for fast charging of EV’s are therefore crucial for wide-spread EV adoptions. This paper reviews the existing fast-charging methods in the market today and offers insights into what it takes to develop future fast-charging methods that are comparable to fuel re-filling for combustion engines.

摘要
