Professional Growth and Development of Surgery Program Directors
摘要
Program directors (PDs) are often provided with minimal formal training or guidance upon assuming the role. This chapter describes resources that surgery program directors can utilize for professional growth and development throughout their career. Understanding the full breadth and depth of the PD position is critical prior to accepting a role as a surgery program director. There are many local and national opportunities for surgeons to hone relevant leadership and education-related skills prior to taking on a program director position. Utilizing national surgical education associations may prove useful to program directors as they seek to build relationships with other PDs and share learned experiences. Following completion of their tenure as PD, many surgeons go on to additional leadership roles within surgical education at the institutional and national levels.
