Menopause Transition: The Interaction Between Weight Gain, Cardiovascular Disease Risk, and Lifestyle
摘要
Menopause marks the end of a female’s reproductive years and is associated with a complex array of physiological changes, particularly in body composition and cardiovascular health. While weight gain during midlife is often attributed to menopause, evidence suggests that aging plays a more significant role. Nevertheless, the menopause transition, characterized by declining estrogen levels, accelerates age-related muscle mass loss and increases fat deposition, particularly in the abdominal region, elevating the risk of cardiovascular disease and metabolic disorders. Understanding the interplay between menopause, weight gain, and cardiometabolic health is essential for developing effective interventions to support women during this life stage.
