Future Directions: Opportunity for Precision Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease in Women—The Rationale for Examining Prevention Through a Gendered Lens
摘要
Although women and men share traditional cardiovascular risk factors, the associated relative risk of cardiovascular disease is greater in women. Moreover, emerging data demonstrate that women are susceptible to an additional burden of female-specific cardiovascular risk factors as well as female-predominant conditions. To date, risk assessment tools are largely sex-agnostic. To enhance cardiovascular disease prevention in women, risk scores must be developed that incorporate female-specific variables as well as sex differences in risk factors across the lifespan. Precision medicine and artificial intelligence offer exciting opportunities to improve the risk assessment and cardiovascular risk interventions and ultimately improve the overall cardiovascular health of women.
