Practiced-Based Research in New Media Design and Technology: Issues and Challenges in Designing Creative Outcome to Facilitate Learning
摘要
Carrying out a research as a new media designer often takes the nature of practice called practice-based research. This approach allows researchers to have knowledge and understanding which may later lead to a successful design performance and improved acuity to designing and developing the creative outcomes. Revisiting the authors’ previously published research work aims to provide more insights; the challenges and issues discussed in this chapter can be valuable in helping to design creative outcomes which can facilitate students’ learning. This includes carefully planning the design thinking process as a creative approach that is iterative and encompasses methods and phases to show how new media designers think and work. The concept of practice-based research in this paper is one of the creative research exemplars to show how practice can inform research. Challenges and issues that are related to real-world experimentation setups to provide input for design education are also discussed. Hence, going through all the experiences faced by the authors, this chapter aims to share the essential information and knowledge which can be useful in designing research projects that apply practice-based research. In this paper, the authors had revisited research work done in the field of new media design and technology for knowledge sharing contribution in terms of issues and challenges in designing creative outcomes to facilitate learning.
