Everything that comes into existence needs our sustained attention. As engineers, we shouldn’t forget about the importance of following things up, getting them done, closing them. Engineering, in general, is a lot about planning and determinism, but also about expecting the unexpected; things pop into existence out of the blue and often at the worst time possible. Whatever their nature, all things have a life cycle, from appearance to closure. And things do not seem to close by themselves.
