Dangerous Originality
摘要
Engineers are constrained by the context to be somewhat unoriginal, to follow established architectures that have formed with time, iterations, and are shaped by factors they cannot control. This phenomenon, where products within a category look similar across different vendors or manufacturers, is influenced by practical, ergonomic, and regulatory considerations. This sounds as if engineers were “cursed” to be unoriginal in order to succeed. Or worse, that innovation could be a problem. We will see that it’s not the case, as long as one is aware of the “curse”.
