Informal entrepreneurship is a vital driver of the economy and brings together entrepreneurs with diverse profiles, career paths, and orientations. Differences in objectives, motivations, and performance levels among informal entrepreneurs may account for this diversity. It is therefore crucial to understand how these entrepreneurs define the meaning and orientation of work. The objective of this article is to examine how informal entrepreneurs perceive and construct the meaning of work. Using a qualitative methodology, 45 semi-structured interviews were conducted. The collected data were subjected to thematic content analysis, which identified the various perceptions of work and its meaning. Finally, a typological analysis produced a classification of informal entrepreneurs based on these perceptions. A key aim of this classification is to identify segments within the study population that share similar behaviors, attitudes, or characteristics.
