Practice guidelines, advisories, and best practice statements produced by the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) and subspecialty societies provide important evidence-based recommendations for clinical care. ASA develops recommendations for perioperative care in the form of practice guidelines and advisories, based upon systematic reviews and meta-analysis of scientific literature using the GRADE system. This chapter reviews the systematic review process, grading of evidence, and formation of clinical recommendations.
