Non-operating Room Anesthesia Oversight and Management
摘要
Non-operating room anesthesia (NORA) broadly refers to the practice of anesthesia that is outside of the traditional operating rooms (ORs). NORA is known to have many challenges related to patient safety, communication, and care coordination. With a rapid increase in the demand for anesthesia services in these complex working environments, and with evolving regulations, an evidence-based approach to NORA oversight and management is needed. Standards of care and regulations that are present in traditional ORs must also be present in the preoperative patient assessment, scheduling, and staffing of NORA locations. Optimal operation and coordination are necessary to ensure patient safety, increase efficiency, and improve cost savings for departments, hospitals, and health systems. Anesthesiologists, skilled at managing complex operating room schedules, and familiar with physicians and staff across varied clinical care settings, are well-suited to lead the oversight and management of NORA locations.
