Social Life Cycle Assessment (S-LCA) enables organizations to analyse the social performance and impacts of products and services in a holistic manner. Such an assessment is especially important for steelmaking, due to due diligence requirements and independent reporting standards. This paper outlines the implementation of the initial two stages of the reference scale approach, as specified in ISO 14075 for Social Life Cycle Performance Assessment (S-LCPA), within the product system of thyssenkrupp Steel Europe, a leading German steel producer. Relevant impact categories for the assessment are defined based on the results of a social hotspot assessment, a double materiality assessment and expert knowledge. Furthermore, the determination of industry-specific reference scales and indicators is presented based on an example for the impact subcategory worker health and safety.

摘要
