Estimating Embodied Impacts of UCL New Student Center Using Construction KPI Data
摘要
The construction sector's environmental footprint necessitates robust methodologies to quantify and mitigate construction phase impacts. This study advances Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology by integrating real-time construction phase Key Performance Indicator (KPI) data into a dynamic framework, applied to the University College London (UCL) New Student Center—a BREEAM “Outstanding” institutional building. Through detailed construction phase analysis, the research identifies mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment (MEP) installation as the dominant contributor to environmental impacts (60–90% of construction burdens), followed by superstructure works. The integration of KPI datasets enabled unprecedented granularity in identifying construction hotspots. The findings advocate for targeted construction phase interventions, enhanced MEP component environmental product declarations (EPDs), and real-time monitoring integration.
