Scaling-Up Life Cycle Thinking into Corporate Footprinting: The Electrolux Group Strategy
摘要
Electrolux is a leading global appliance company that adopts a science-based approach for its sustainability strategy and initiatives. The Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology is well established within the company, with continued efforts to further broaden its scope and application. LCA has been used for years for identifying the main environmental hotspots for products and for guiding ecodesign developments. These results have also been leveraged to strengthen marketing claims and brand reputation, besides nudging consumers toward more sustainable use of appliances. In order to support a consistent methodology and credible communication of the environmental impacts of our products, we've developed and adopted an internal Appliance LCA Guideline, which was verified by a third-party according to the ISO 14040 and 14044. LCA methodology is also playing a key role in supporting corporate strategy and climate targets. LCA is indeed used in the context of corporate footprint to provide valuable insights in understanding Scope 3 greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions, particularly for main contributors such as for Category 1 (purchase goods and services) and 11 (use of sold products). LCA methodology will continue to play an important role in Electrolux’s strategy, with particular focus in the management of complex data and implementation of future scenarios in the analysis of product portfolio to support decision-makers.
