Issues and Challenges in the Mitigation Strategies of Urban Heat Island (UHI)
摘要
Urban Heat Island (UHI) is a phenomenon where urban areas experience significantly higher temperatures than their rural surroundings due to human activities and modifications in land use. The increased heat in urban centers can exacerbate energy consumption, pose health risks, and impact environmental quality. This chapter explores the key mitigation strategies employed to address the UHI effect, including green infrastructure, cool roofs, water bodies, and urban planning. Through a systematic literature review and the analysis of four case studies, Singapore, Phoenix, Tokyo, and Nagpur, the chapter identifies the effectiveness of these strategies and the associated challenges. The findings highlight technical, economic, and socio-political constraints and the trade-offs involved in implementing UHI mitigation measures. Furthermore, the study emphasizes the need for integrated policy frameworks and innovative approaches to enhance the resilience and sustainability of cities facing rising temperatures.
