The Luigi Bernabò Brea Museum in Lipari: Management and Valorization of Archaeological Sites for Contemporary Theatricality
摘要
The valorization and management of archaeological sites are today closely related to the issues of digitalization, virtualization, and more generally with innovative techniques for the documentation, analysis, and sharing of cultural heritage. In this context, the archaeological park of the Aeolian Islands and in particular its central headquarters, the Luigi Bernabò Brea Museum founded in 1954 on the Castle of Lipari, represent a particularly significant field of investigation in the Mediterranean context. The masks present at the Bernabò Brea Museum in Lipari, although of great value, are today diametrically distant from what was the link between use and ritual, now lost in a past time. The new digital theatricality aims at a multi-level involvement of the user, becoming himself an actor of the emotions linked to the specific mask worn. In fact, real-time facial motion capture guarantees the wearability of the mask in relation to the user’s face, through which to give new life and soul to the masks in the museum collection. The emerging digital theatre is therefore defined as a new expedient for the valorization of archaeological finds linked to the theatre and the mask, capable of guaranteeing effective cataloguing through digital survey, and an engaging increased use. The proposed study is located at the intersection between archaeology and digital representation, investigating the theme of the mask in the relationship with the user of the museum context. Some of the outcomes of a Blended Intensive Program (BIP) held at the park in May 2024 are presented.
