In this chapter, we discuss, through a review of global literature and illustrative case vignettes, the journey of a girl child who has experienced adversities to becoming a woman trying to navigate motherhood in the context of a noisy environment. The complex intersection between childhood vulnerabilities, ongoing conflicts, and the challenges of transitioning into a new role can have a significant impact on mental health. Recognizing and assessing these underlying dynamics is crucial for understanding maternal mental health and for formulating a comprehensive, trauma-informed treatment plan. This chapter explores the multifaceted influences on perinatal mental health, using clinical insights to guide sensitive and effective interventions.
